MAC (OUI) Database

This application contains a database of Organizational Unique Identifiers (OUIs).

OUIs are the first 24 bits of a MAC address (Bluetooth or Ethernet) and the list is managed by the IEEE.

With this application you can see which company owns a MAC (e.g.  00:09:2D for HTC), or vice versa see which MAC addresses a company has  registered.

Before you can use this application, you will need to download a copy of the OUI database. To do that press "Menu->Update DB". I refresh and  upload this database weekly.

In the next few days I will release a windows application which can be  used to create that database so you can update it manually.

For more information about OUIs see here:

  • Before you use this  application, you need to download a copy of the OUI Database. To do  that, Press Menu->Update DB. Keep in mind it is about 0.5MB.
  • To perform a wildcard search, use the percentage sign (%). So typing "HT%" will search for all items which start with "HT".
  • The search is case insensitive.
  • In the MAC field enter only the first 6 characters of the MAC you  are looking for. You can still enter less if you use a wildcard. Any  delimiter symbols (such as : or -) will be automatically removed.
  • For more information about OUIs see here:

  • v0.1.0 First public release
  • v0.1.1 UI Fixes, fixed DB sanitisation bug, added better error messages.
  • v0.1.2 More UI fixes.
  • v0.1.3 Added "Hide" button. Changed SD card DB name to android_oui.db3.
  • v0.1.4 Changed minimum OS to 1.6 to support larger screens, fix for FC on DB download.

Permission Explanation

  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Used to check if the device is on-line and using which interface.
  • INTERNET: Used to go on-line and download the updated database.
  • WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: Used to write the database to the SD card.

To download the application you'll need to go to the Android Market and search for "MAC (OUI) Database".

Alternatively, use an application like Barcode Scanner to scan the QR code below  (or click on it from your Android device):
